While the track remains steep, entering "real" bush not only affords safer hand-holds, it shades one from sun exposure. However the Kaiauai Hut is now just a shelter without any water (so Ian & John climbed down to the river while I prepared a sumptuous lunch).
The Kaiauai track then is in and out of rivers all the way to the road end. I can now fully endorse the need to upgrade the Northern Circuit, and the sooner the Maude and Henry Peak track section is improved, the better.
