Tuesday 19th February 2013: Instead of another long day (20km to Anakiwa), we had organised an additional stop, this time at Lochmara Lodge.

After leaving the Torea (portage) Road, one climbs steeply the first 300m then along a ridge to the high point at 407m. One then descends to a side path from the main Queen Charlotte Track from which it is 3.5km to the amazing Lochmara Lodge. There are quirky as well as high quality sculpture throughout the gardens and trails around the lodge. .

From here we we leave the main Queen Charlotte Track turning left to drop down to Lochmara Lodge. The track loops round West Bay before dropping to the Lodge. We can look back at A813 (407m), the high point from where we had descended.
