Easter 2003 (d)
The next day we headed off to Sandspit for the Kawau Kat ferry trip to Kawau Island. We took our own lunch as the "vegetarian" meal they planned for the boys had fish replacing steak.
We were on the Royal Mailrun which stopped at a number of jetties and sailed into North Cove, right up Bon Accord Harbour and finally landing us at Mansion House in South Cove.
We headed off along well groomed tracks toward the old copper mine and had our lunch up on Grey Heights [182m] before dropping fairly steeply to the beach before the mine. After that it was up to the "Heights" again before a gentle descent back to the Mansion House which became a more rapid trip with the arrival of rain. The consensus decision was to board the Kawau Kat for an earlier return (after a quick peak in the Mansion windows).
The Thai Restaurant in Warkworth proved a good choice for all, where we were treated to roosters climbing trees!
The next day we drove to Whangarei in poor weather via Pakiri (try once, but its quicker via Warkworth). Didn't manage to visit Ross & Lucy - a bit of bad planning!
Up early to check out Coxhead Creek then back to Auckland to get Benjamin to work.
