Day 3: (Thur 13th Mar 2008): The "new Julia Hut" only slept 6 so some stayed in the very much older (near derelict) hut and claimed it was comfortable! John S also checked out the hot "pools" which have to be dug in the gravel.

Note the "Fire Exit" sign (the only exit!) and "Assembly Point" = Outside!

We continued past the Taipo River (combined Mary and Julia Creeks), crossing Tumbledown Creek on a 3 wire bridge (I was getting better using forearms for balance, hoping there were no frayed wire. The puffballs (pukurau) photographed are probably Lycoperdon perlatum (Devil's Snuffbox).

This was a short day and quite a casual stoll down a good track with all rivers bridged.

Jim's book seemed to lack a certain interest and I battled on as a handless cook. The clothes got a bit of a wash & dry (and my best tramping sox are still on the line or someone else is getting good value from them)!

Note the pointless fire notice in 614JS.
