Wednesday 29th February 2012: A Leap Day and a bad weather forecast were ominous signs but we had changed the route from a West-East over the tops tramp to a North-South in the valleys "new and exciting tramp".

We met (with spare drivers) at the top of the Waingawa Road for a divy out of food and supplies before a team photo and heading up the Waingawa track beside the Waingawa Stream to Mitre Flats Hut.

The weather held out but we now had a warning of a "weather bomb" (intense low pressure area) would be hitting the Tararuas early Saturday!!

The team seen in the second photo below, from left were: Ian, Keith, Graham, Alan, John, Roger and Yau Sing.
