Day 5: (Wednesday 4th March 2009) This day was less demanding on the navigators and "grunts", needing to just follow the track on the true right of the Waingawa River to Mitre Flats Hut.

The river track was not always easy, with some dodgy sections over slips, muddy bits on river flats and the odd time the track seemed to disappear (pays to watch the markers not the pig tracks). There was some mist on a river flat but I discovered the misty photo was some mist on the lens filter!
