At Bark Bay there is a large modern hut, and the weka are quite friendly. There is another wading over mud flats before heading inland away from not so nice sounding places like Mosquito Bay and Foul Point. The track emerges at the old Tonga Quarry, then works around to the golden sands of Onetahuti Beach.

We enter a swamp then climb the 150m Tonga Saddle, dropping down to a mixed scrub and pasture area before Awaroa Bay, Inlet & Hut. The section of beach before the hut was too soft for easy tramping, but the hut itself is nice and the inlet has interesting visual contrasts.
