As one reaches the river flats other fauna (pigeons and snails) join the interesting fungi, fearless Robins, wasps and increasingly numerous and aggressive sandflies. Karamea Bend Hut is nice and new but impossible to leave for long given the huge numbers of wasps and sandflies. Otherwise a nice spot!
